30.03.2021. Swiss Steel Group has selected the cloud-based platform Metalshub for its raw material procurement activities. Therefore, the four European business units of the Swiss Steel Group, Ascometal, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke, Ugitech, and Steeltec will strengthen their competitiveness by using the innovative software tool starting from March 2021.

Digitalisation of processes

Swiss Steel Group is successfully driving forward the digitalisation of its processes and activities by implementing a digital procurement solution. The cloud-based platform Metalshub will be used for purchasing a significant proportion of raw materials and will be integrated with the ERP system to ensure efficiency as well as synchronised and effective data visibility for the whole organisation.

“While efficiency and compliance are key drivers for introducing digital procurement solutions, Swiss Steel Group is also supporting the development of more liquid and transparent raw material markets and reducing CO2 emissions also in the supply chain. Metalshub is enabling us to become more efficient while creating a liquid spot market for our required raw materials,” highlights Gerd Oehm, Vice President Corporate Purchasing.

Dr. Frank Jackel, co-founder and Managing Director at Metalshub:

“Raw material costs make up a significant amount of the total costs of a steel mill. Therefore, raw material procurement is a strategic function and key driver of competitiveness for every steel mill. We are very pleased that the Swiss Steel Group has chosen Metalshub as their digital procurement tool. Our software tool is specialised on the iron and steel industries and therefore customised to fulfil the very specific requirements.”

More than 1,100 registered companies

With more than 1,100 companies registered on Metalshub the digital platform not only supports the negotiation process between raw material sellers and buyers. It also strengthens the qualification, onboarding and management of new partners. Suppliers can upload REACH-registration documents, ISO certificates and sustainability reports via the platform. In addition, Metalshub is publishing the first fully transaction-based price indices for ferroalloys.
