21.06.2021. Steel distributor Jacob Bek is further expanding its capacities in the service area and investing in a state-of-the-art new multi-strip cut-to-length line. For this purpose, the company is building another production hall in the Ulm Donautal industrial estate.

Groundbreaking ceremony

The groundbreaking ceremony was held on 16 June 2021 by Managing Directors Robert Seeberger and Peter Zarth, together with shareholder representative Ulrich Müller and thyssenkrupp Materials Services HR Director Dr. Marc Schlette. Roger Breyer from the construction company Goldbeck and Martin Hörst from thyssenkrupp Schulte were also present as project participants. With the investment, Jacob Bek is strengthening its core business – the customised plaiting of blanks and sheet metal – and thus offering its customers a broader range of services.

New machine

“With the help of the new machine, we are even better able to meet the high quality demands of our customers and offer them distribution-related services in all areas,” says Robert Seeberger, Managing Director of Jacob Bek GmbH.

The new machine will enable the company to process up to 60,000 t/a of material more in the planned two-shift operation. Processing of ring weights of up to 30 t is possible, and packaging of the material runs fully automatically. The new multi-strip cut-to-length line thus complements the extensive service capabilities and follows the “Materials as a Service” strategy of thyssenkrupp Materials Services with customised solutions.

Efficient new building with sustainable aspects

The future hall covers an area of around 2,500 m² and will be equipped with two modern crane systems with a load capacity of up to 32 t. The hall is designed to be sustainable: In addition to electric forklifts, the new building will also have parking spaces for e-cars and charging stations for e-bikes. A heat pump heating system will temper the building. Construction will start on 21 June 2021, and the project is scheduled for completion by summer 2022.
