Preparations for the world’s biggest technology trade fairs GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST have started. On 21 February 2022 the Advisory Board of the Düsseldorf quartet of trade fairs was established at its first meeting. The new President of the foundry trade fair GIFA as well as of the leading global trade fair for cast products NEWCAST is Dr. Ioannis Ioannidis, CEO and Spokesman of the Board at Oskar Frech GmbH + Co. KG from Schorndorf. Burkhard Dahmen, Chairman of the Board at SMS group in Düsseldorf, was confirmed as President of METEC, the International Metallurgy Trade Fair with the ESTAD and EMC Congresses. The new President of THERMPROCESS, International Trade Fair and Symposium for Thermo Process Technology, is Dipl.-Ing. Till Schreiter, CEO and President of ABP Induction Systems GmbH in Dortmund. All three candidates were elected unanimously.

New Concept for Thermprocess

Till Schreiter, who contributes over 20 years of national and international experience from the electrical and metal industries to the trade fair with a symposium for thermoprocess technology, explained: “For whoever wants to actively invest in a sustainable, future-oriented and prosperity-securing design of Europe, a visit to GIFA, METEC, THERMPROCESS and NEWCAST is an absolutely must. There is no other event in our sector that offers you this opportunity for personal exchange with the global experts and decision-makers. Especially after this low-contact pandemic period, GIFA, METEC, THERMPOCESS and NEWCAST will be sources of inspiration.” The 55-year old who is active in the VDMA and CECOF will actively support Messe Düsseldorf in the further conceptual design of THERMPROCESS.

Innovative strength for GIFA and NEWCAST

Dr. Ioannis Ioannidis, who also is Chairman of VDMA Metallurgy and President of the European association CEMAFON, succeeds Heinz Nelissen in office, the former Managing Director of Vesuvius GmbH, who retired last year. “It is with great joy that we can now anticipate the leading global trade fairs GIFA and NEWCAST and being able to meet again in person on an international level in June 2023 in the beautiful city of Düsseldorf. Our trend-setting industry – Metallurgy – will again give proof of its great innovative strength and impressively demonstrate its ongoing pioneering work in sustainability. With this it makes a clear statement about the sector’s strong appeal,” said Dr. Ioannis Ioannidis in view of the forthcoming events.

METEC moves on with Burkhard Dahmen

Burkhard Dahmen, Chairman of the Board at SMS group and Board Member in the East Committee of the German Economy was again appointed President of METEC. He emphasised the significance of the trade fair for the industry. “I am very pleased to be able to proactively help shape the leading trade fair of our industry as President of METEC for the second time. It has never before been so important to highlight and discuss the comprehensive changes introduced by our industry towards climate-neutral production and the careful use of resources. I look forward to the personal encounters and expert exchange.”

With the first meeting of the Advisory Board the strategic course for the quartet of trade fairs has been charted. Messe Düsseldorf and its conceptual sponsors and partners will use the coming months until June 2023. They want to further drive the successful development of the “Bright World of Metals”. Here, the dialogue with experts and multipliers on the manufacturers and users side plays a pivotal role especially in challenging times of industry change.

The leading global trade fairs focus on mega trends such as decarbonisation in the metal industry as well as innovative processes in steel and metal working such as additive manufacturing. Also, AI and digital processes in foundries and the ‘Industry 4.0 steel mill’ are much discussed focal topics. The ecoMetals Campaign by Messe Düsseldorf refers to the industries’ ecological path and promotes exhibiting companies that invest in innovative, environment-saving and sustainable technologies.
